Sierra Vista Arizona: A New Way Forward
Study area:
The Sierra Vista Transit Route Study began in Spring of 2025 to increase ridership, enhance rider experience, and minimize negative effects on current passengers, thereby improving overall transit services within the community.
Study objectives include:
Make recommendations to improve current routes and paratransit services
Enhance rider experience
Minimize negative effects on current passengers
Evaluate facility, fleet, and personnel resources necessary for implementing recommendations
The Study is organized under three primary tasks:
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Existing conditions review
- Onboard survey
- Socioeconomic & demographic analysis
Gather feedback from the public through:
- Surveys
- Meetings
- Pop-up events
Recommendation Development:
- Development of short to long-range recommendations to enhance the Vista Transit system
The Study is projected to run until Spring 2026, with key public outreach activities occurring during the fall and winter of 2025.
Ongoing Activities
The project team is currently:
- Establishing the existing conditions of transit in Sierra Vista through socioeconomic and demographic analysis, a review of past relevant plans, and conducting an operational analysis of existing transit services
- Developing two survey instruments to be used in fall 2025 to determine customer preferences and understand how the transit system is used today
- Creating strategies to engage the public in the development of their future transit system
